Huntsman Corporation: Promote green and low-carbon upgrading of the construction industry

The promotion of green building materials is an important way to achieve the goal of “double carbon”, and is also the strategic focus of Huntsman Corporation. On May 16, at the sub forum of prefabricated ultra-low energy consumption buildings and low-carbon building materials held at the 19th International Conference on Green Building and Building Energy Efficiency, Pan Limin, president of Huntsman Corporation’s polyurethane business unit in Asia Pacific, said that Huntsman Corporation was actively gathering resources from all aspects of the industrial chain to promote green and low-carbon upgrading of the construction industry through innovation and collaboration, and help China achieve the goal of “dual carbon”.

Assist in promoting ultra-low energy buildings

The deep development of the ultra-low energy consumption construction industry has become an inevitable trend. Pan Lumin said that Huntsman complied with the demand of “double carbon” construction, led domestic and international technologies, models, business types and standards, and developed the “Rheinland Yongzhu” low-carbon energy-saving new material solution platform focusing on ultra-low energy consumption buildings, which is a comprehensive innovation platform integrating Huntsman’s insulation sandwich panels, energy-saving system doors and windows, spraying insulation foam and other polyurethane low-carbon building products, and is Huntsman’s latest technological achievements in the field of low-carbon building materials.

Li Peng, secretary-general of China Low-carbon economy Development Promotion Association, believes that the promotion of ultra-low energy consumption buildings is a key link in the green and low-carbon transformation of the construction industry. At present, cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou have successively introduced policies related to ultra-low energy buildings, posing new demands for the expanded application of high-performance exterior wall insulation materials. Taking Shanghai as an example, the “Interim Regulations on the Management of Ultra Low Energy Consumption Building Projects in Shanghai” organized by the Shanghai Housing and Urban Rural Development Commission clearly states that the proportion of integrated insulation in the integrated external wall insulation system shall not be less than 80%. Pan Limin stated that to meet the new standards for ultra-low energy buildings, traditional sandwich insulation integrated systems need to increase the thickness of building walls, resulting in industry pain points such as increased costs, reduced occupancy rates, and more difficult construction. In this regard, the new thermal insulation material Taloyou microporous thermal insulation plate developed by Huntsman Corporation has made a unique innovation from the source of material molecular structure design, and introduced Taloyou recycled polyester polyol with high aromatic ring content, which can solve these industry pain points.

Pan Limin introduced: “The core material of the new product uses recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) as the raw material Tai Luo You polyester polyol with patented plastic recycling technology. This material can effectively reduce the Carbon footprint of building materials by 30%, and the special molecular structure inside the core material can reduce the thermal conductivity of the insulation board, thus improving the thermal insulation performance. Therefore, the Tai Luo You microporous insulation board solution can reduce the thickness of walls in buildings, reduce costs, and meet the B1 level fire protection requirements proposed by building regulations, opening up a new path for the promotion of ultra-low energy buildings

Promoting carbon reduction in the industrial chain through “adding 1 to reduce N”

Ma Suzhen, Assistant Dean of the Double Carbon Development Research Institute of China Construction Technology Group, pointed out that promoting ultra-low energy consumption buildings cannot do without low-carbon building materials, including external wall insulation materials, roofs, doors and windows, etc. Green and low-carbon is the innovative development direction of the building materials industry, and there is huge market space in the future. Pan Limin said that the low-carbon transformation of the construction industry has provided a broad market space for polyurethane materials and pointed out the direction for Huntsman Corporation’s innovation.

As an upstream enterprise in the polyurethane industry chain, Huntsman Corporation closely focuses on the “double carbon” system project, and works with upstream and downstream industry chain partners to practice.
